Refund Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
1. Introduction
At Browns of Portmarnock, we aim to provide an exceptional experience for every guest. We understand that plans can change and are committed to handling cancellations, refunds and customer concerns fairly, transparently and in accordance with Irish consumer protection legislation.
This policy applies to restaurant reservations, group bookings, ticketed events and other purchases made directly through Browns of Portmarnock or our website.

2. Standard Restaurant Reservations
Standard restaurant reservations at Browns of Portmarnock do not ordinarily require a deposit or card guarantee.
Guests may cancel or amend their reservations without incurring a cancellation fee.
We kindly ask that cancellations are made as early as reasonably possible to allow us to offer the table to other guests.
Late Arrivals
Tables will ordinarily be held for up to 15 minutes after the scheduled reservation time.
If you anticipate arriving late, please contact us directly.
Where guests arrive more than 15 minutes late without notifying us, we reserve the right to release their table.
We will always endeavour to accommodate late arrivals where availability permits.
3. Larger Group Bookings and Deposits
For larger groups, private dining or special arrangements, Browns may require a deposit or card guarantee.
Where applicable, the deposit amount, cancellation deadline, refund eligibility and any potential cancellation or no-show charges will be communicated before the booking is confirmed.
Deposits may be non-refundable where this has been clearly agreed in advance and where such conditions are lawful and fair.
Cancellation charges will only apply where they have been disclosed and accepted as part of the booking conditions.
Where Browns is unable to honour a confirmed group reservation, any deposit paid for the affected booking will be refunded unless the customer voluntarily accepts a suitable alternative arrangement.
4. Ticketed Events and Special Experiences
Browns of Portmarnock may host ticketed events, including wine tastings, steak nights, wine dinners, producer events and other special dining experiences.
Certain events may require full payment at the time of booking.
Customer Cancellations
Each event may have its own cancellation and refund conditions, which will be clearly displayed before payment.
Where a ticket is sold as non-refundable, this condition will be communicated before purchase and will apply only to the extent permitted by law.
We may, at our discretion, offer a transfer to an alternative event, a replacement attendee or another suitable arrangement.
Events Cancelled by Browns
If Browns cancels an event, customers will be entitled to a full refund of the ticket price paid for the cancelled event.
Alternatively, customers may choose to transfer their booking to a rescheduled event where one is available.
Customers will not be required to accept an alternative event instead of a refund where a refund is legally due.
Event Rescheduling or Significant Changes
If an event is rescheduled or materially changed, affected customers will be notified as soon as reasonably possible.
Appropriate refund or alternative booking options will be provided in accordance with applicable consumer law.
5. Online Purchases and Cooling-Off Rights
Under Irish consumer legislation, many online purchases benefit from a statutory 14-day cancellation period.
However, certain services are exempt, including catering and leisure activities booked for a specific date or period.
Accordingly, the standard 14-day cooling-off period will generally not apply to confirmed restaurant bookings or tickets for specific-date dining and wine events.
Customers should review the applicable cancellation terms before completing their booking.
This does not affect statutory rights where a service is not provided as agreed or is otherwise non-compliant with applicable consumer law.
6. Food and Beverage Purchases
We take great care to ensure that all food and beverages served at Browns meet our standards of quality and presentation.
If you are dissatisfied with an item, please inform a member of our team as soon as possible so we have an opportunity to address the issue.
Depending on the circumstances, an appropriate resolution may include:
-
Preparing a replacement dish or beverage.
-
Offering a suitable alternative.
-
Applying a price reduction.
-
Providing a partial or full refund where appropriate.
Refunds will be provided where required by applicable consumer legislation.
A change of mind or personal preference does not automatically entitle a customer to a refund once food or beverages have been prepared or served, provided the items conform to the agreed description and applicable legal requirements.
Nothing in this policy restricts statutory rights relating to defective or non-conforming goods or services.
7. Gift Vouchers
Browns of Portmarnock intends to introduce gift vouchers in the future.
Once available, gift vouchers will be subject to applicable Irish consumer protection legislation.
Gift vouchers covered by the Consumer Protection (Gift Vouchers) Act 2019 will be valid for a minimum of five years from purchase, unless issued without an expiry date.
Such vouchers may be redeemed across multiple transactions, and any qualifying remaining balance will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
Gift vouchers are not ordinarily refundable solely because the purchaser or recipient changes their mind, except where a statutory cancellation right applies or where otherwise required by law.
Any additional voucher-specific refund or cancellation terms will be communicated at the time of purchase.
8. Refund Processing
Where a refund is approved or legally required, Browns will aim to process it promptly.
Refunds will ordinarily be issued to the original payment method, unless another method is agreed or required by law.
The time taken for refunded funds to appear in the customer's account may depend on their bank or payment provider.
Where statutory refund deadlines apply, refunds will be processed within those deadlines.
We may request reasonable proof of purchase or booking confirmation to verify a refund request.
9. Third-Party Reservations and Payments
Reservations or payments may be processed through third-party providers, including OpenTable.
Where a cancellation or refund is requested, customers may contact Browns directly or use the relevant booking platform where supported.
Third-party payment processing times and procedures may apply.
Nothing in this section removes any statutory responsibility Browns has towards its customers.
10. Exceptional Circumstances
We recognise that unexpected events, emergencies or other exceptional circumstances may occasionally prevent guests from attending a reservation or event.
Customers are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible in such situations.
Although refunds or transfers cannot be guaranteed outside applicable booking conditions and statutory rights, each request will be considered fairly and on its individual circumstances.
11. Customer Rights
This policy operates in accordance with applicable Irish consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Rights Act 2022.
Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any statutory rights or remedies available to customers.
Where a provision of this policy conflicts with mandatory consumer law, the applicable legal requirements will prevail.
